ROSSITER September 26, 1978 To: Authors, Chemical Experimentation Under Extreme Conditions The final editing of Chemical Experimentation Under Extreme Conditions will begin shortly and is expected to be complete about October 17. The manuscript will then be sent directly to the compositor for typesetting. The design and editorial style will be that used in the 11-volume series entitled, "Physical Methods of Chemistry" edited by Arnold Weissberger and myself. The procedures used will be to mail the Master set of galley proofs to the senior author of each cahpter together with two duplicate sets: one file set and one set to be indexed-marked. The senior author will forward the proofread and corrected Master to me for final review and consolidation of changes before I return it to the publishers. Presently it is not planned that you will see the final page proofs. It is necessary that you obtain permission to rgpr'oduce all copyrighted material. If you have not received this permission for copyright material contained in your chapter, you should do so immediately and forward letters of permission to me for transmittal to the publishers. I believe I have received most of these documents already. If not, however, please let me know immediately. We have had a recurring problem with cross-references to sections by Section Number; i.e., Section 2.1, Section 2.2, Section 2.3, etc. As you know from previous instructions from the publishers we intend to use a streamlined format that uses numbers only for the main sections. The Table of Contents from a previous chapter in "Physical Methods of Chemistry" illustrates what I mean. Contributors to the present volume should be made aware of this and revise cross-references in the galleys to take this into account. This should not be difficult and it will ensure accuracy that might not be obtained if these changes are left to the copy editor.
